£ BUY LOCAL FIRST DAY and HERO CONTEST successful! What a fun day! What a fun contest! Check out our website for photos from the December 3 Buy Local First Day. Some members have reported terrific increased customer traffic and sales during this event.

Our Buy Local First Hero Contest participants were busily scurrying around town to find you local, independent businesses for two weeks, starting 12/03. First place winner Rebecka Weinsteiger shopped in 56 different indie businesses and was rewarded with a prize basket containing merchandise and certificates valued at over $1500. Randall Bonner, 2nd place finisher submitted receipts from 45 businesses and 3rd place was captured by Marge Stevens, who visited 36 of you, while having quite a fun time. Marge summarized her contest experience in an email, in which she said:

"I really enjoyed the experience of participating in the buy local contest. I do not consider myself as a big consumer or willing shopper. I try to avoid malls and big box stores. But, knowing that I was supporting the local business people and the local economy, I actually enjoyed shopping locally. . . Much of my pleasure in the event was just going in the doors of businesses that I don't normally patronize, just to see what they had. . . . I found myself getting Christmas gifts for people that were more creative and practical by buying local."

Thanks to all of you who participated in both the Buy Local First Day and the Hero Contest – your enthusiasm and commitment made them exceptional events!
