July 23, 2010

£ CONGRATULATIONS to the following newly-elected CIBA Board officers for 2010-11:

Kate Lindburg, Animal Crackers, re-elected as President; Nadine Grzeskowiak, RN On Call/Gluten Free RN, Vice-President; Katy Krupp, Element Graphics, Secretary; Ilene Anderton, A & S Accounting, Treasurer.

£ It’s time for the JULY MEMBERSHIP MEETING! Join us at Home Grown Gardens (4845 SE 3rd St – on your left as you drive south on Hwy 99W), with our hosts Jeff & Donna Cope, on Wednesday, July 28, 5:30-7:00 p.m. As usual, there will be yummy goodies, something cool to drink, and an opportunity to learn more about the Copes’ local business – Jeff might even give us a tour! There will be plenty of time for networking and enjoying the company of other local independent business owners. Bring a friend and we’ll see you there!

£ Thanks to everyone who volunteered, provided a display table and came to celebrate Buying Local during the 2010 BUY LOCAL FIRST BREAKFAST series! Once again these three community breakfasts were a rousing success, serving a delicious breakfast (made primarily from Local 6 ingredients!) to over 600 people. Many kudos to our partners in this event – First Alternative Food Cooperative and the Corvallis Odd Fellows – and special appreciation to this year’s planning team for all their “behind the scenes” work to make each breakfast a smashing success!

£ A new joint effort of the City and the Corvallis Environmental Center will give you up to $500 for insulating or sealing your business through CORVALLIS WEATHERIZATION INCENTIVE PROGRAM (available to businesses located within the City limits; there is also a residential program). Here are the steps:
1. First, receive a free Business Energy Review through Energy Trust of Oregon subcontractor, Corvallis Environmental Center.
2. Choose your contractor(s) from the CWIP Contractor List, available at www.corvallisenvironmentalcenter.org (click on the Energy Efficiency tab and then CWIP). Projects MUST be completed using a contractor from this list to qualify for CWIP.
3. Work with your contractor to decide which weatherization project you want in your building.
4. For businesses, the incentive is a rebate, reimbursed directly to the business by the Corvallis Environmental Center.
CWIP covers 75% of the project cost, up to $500 for floor, attic, wall, and duct insulation, duct sealing and air sealing, plus $35 each for air sealing and duct sealing tests. For full project details, visit www.corvallisenvironmentalcenter.org.

£ THANK YOU to the following businesses for RENEWING THEIR CIBA BUSINESS MEMBERSHIPS: American Dream Pizza/Monroe, A&S Accounting, Big River Breads, Big River Restaurant & Bar, Corvallis-Albany Farmers Market, Footwise-The Birkenstock Store, Peak Sports, Solar Ki, The Ball Studio and The Toy Factory.
